1. The launch of META, Facebook’s new metaverse, made headlines in Big Tech news last month. As soon as Mark Zuckerberg released the video presentation, the worldwide news media fueled debate on the operation, raising the following questions: What is the Metaverse, and Why does Mark Zuckerberg care so much about it? (Forbes); Are You Missing Out on the Metaverse? (The New York Times). Other articles have questioned the timing of the release – The Real Reason Facebook Changed Its Name (The Atlantic) – and the kind of technological innovation it introduces: Hey, Facebook, I Made a Metaverse 27 Years Ago (The Atlantic) (Media Sources on the IPSAPortal).

2. The Pandora Papers is the name given to one of the most extensive investigations in the history of journalism. More than 600 journalists from 150 news outlets have unearthed the offshore dealings of 35 current and former world leaders and more than 300 current and former public officials and politicians worldwide. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has dedicated a website to the Pandora Papers, where users can learn more about offshore firms and the Power Players involved (Thematic Networks on the IPSAPortal).

3. A few days before COP26, the United Nations conference on climate change, the Pew Research Center surveys highlighted how public opinions around the world view climate change and international responses to it. People expressed widespread concern about the personal impact of global climate change and confidence in the response that international bodies and individual governments are trying to implement. The results of the panels are presented in the article Fast facts about international views of climate change as Biden attends the UN COP26 Conference (Research Institutes on the IPSAPortal).
