IPSAMOOC goes edX

IPSAMOOC

We’re extremely excited to announce that the joint IPSA - Federica Weblearning venture is now on edX, the leading non-profit online learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT.

IPSAMOOC goes edX

Authored by outstanding academics from the IPSA community, IPSAMOOC is a unique contribution to political scientists worldwide and to students of politics at large, providing open access to a highly qualified PS core curriculum. The courses are open to all and are free of charge. Students who successfully complete the content and assignments may obtain Certification for all courses. A small fee is payable to have a certificate issued.

Introduction to Political Science

Five of these courses combine to form an edX XSeries program, which offers learners a deeper understanding and core qualification in key subjects in political science through a valuable XSeries certificate.

Enjoy IPSAMOOC!

IPSA Welcomes the Angolan Political Science Association and the Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA)

IPSA is pleased to announce that the Angolan Political Science Association and the Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA) have joined the ranks of IPSA’s political science association (PSA) members.

The Committee on Participation and Memberships approved their respective candidacies at IPSA Executive Committee meeting no.126, held in Lisbon (Portugal) on April 14 and 15, 2018. The Angolan Political Science Association and the Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA) thus become the 56th and 57th country members of IPSA, and each will be a voting member at the upcoming IPSA Council, to be held in conjunction with the upcoming World Congress of Political Science in Brisbane, Australia.

The Nordic Political Science Association (NoPSA) is the Nordic extension of national associations of political science in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden (all members of IPSA), and it joins IPSA as a regional association, a provision allowed under the IPSA constitution.

IPSA warmly welcomes both associations and extends its best wishes for success to political scientists in these parts of the world.

IPSA Summer Schools

1st IPSA-Federica Summer School in Concept Analysis in the Web environment

The first edition of the IPSA Summer School on Concept Analysis in the Web environment will be held in Capri, the enchanting island in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, from September 2 to 6, 2018. This leading IPSA program provides advanced theoretical and practical training in qualitative methodology, based on the hyperpolitics approach for concept analysis in political science. Hyperpolitics is a pioneering application of Web 2.0 logic to create a repository of political science concepts. This academic ecosystem is comprised of books (Calise and Lowi, University of Chicago Press, 2010), a working platform (www.hyperpolitics.net), hyperlinks and learning communities that define concepts in terms of their relationship to other concepts.

The format and venue of this event are a perfect fit: the layout and flow of the picturesque Orlandi Villa and gardens reflect the varied and fluid structure of the program activities. The combination of comfortable study rooms, online workspaces, shady terraces and lawns, offers the perfect backdrop for the blend of formal and informal, individual and group reflection, discussion, tutoring and presentations that the Summer School offers.

The Summer School offers an intensive and interactive workshop format. Places are very limited, therefore, and admission will be granted on a first come, first served basis.

The deadline for applications is May 31.

3rd IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science

The third edition of the IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science will be held at Flacso Mexico in Mexico City from June 4 to 15, 2018.

The school offers high-quality advanced training in qualitative and quantitative social science methods under highly experienced international faculty from the U.S. and Europe, and participants also receive rigorous training in state-of-the-art research methods.

Over a two-week period, the 2018 IPSA-Flacso Mexico Summer School will give scholars and graduate students in Mexico and other Latin American countries a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of social science research methods, discuss research interests, network, and attend an evening lecture series. The lecture series will see each of the instructors present their research, with a prominent Mexican academic leading the discussions on the substantive and methodological implications thereof.

The deadline for registrations and payment is May 4th.

50th Northeastern Political Science Association Conference: 50 Years of Change

NPSA

IPSA is pleased to collaborate with the Northeastern Political Science Association, which will hold its 50th annual meeting in Montreal (Canada) from November 8 to 10, 2018.

To mark its 50th anniversary of hosting conferences showcasing political research and findings, this year’s theme will focus on events, trends, and crises that have shaped the world during NPSA’s 50 years of existence. What has changed in the past 50 years? What conditions facilitated these transformations, and what are the implications? What has remained the same, and why? This theme encompasses all political science subfields, encouraging participants to think broadly and creatively about their areas of interest and research. While not all papers are required to incorporate the conference theme, preference will be given to proposals that do.
