Citizens and Leaders in a Comparative Perspective. What can political psychology and political socialization research tell us about recent trends and events?
Joint conference of the Political Psychology RC of the Russian PSA, the Research Committee on Political Socialization and Education (RC21) and the Research Committee on Psycho-Politics (RC29) of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), and The Political Science Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

We live in a stimulating environment in the way that many societies undergo severe transitions due to several positive and less positive events and developments. E-politics is moving forward and provides us with many challenges. We have seen political transitions that may offer people more opportunities and chances for democracy. We live in interesting times with unexpected processes of democratization and losses of democracy. Events elsewhere in the world have their impact upon national politics because of globalization processes. Media dynamics contribute to quick changes in popularity of leaders.
Citizens and political leaders are faced with elections that announce huge changes. In this conference we want to focus on (examples of) how political psychology and political socialization theory and research can help us – as well as politicians and ordinary citizens – to better understand the interaction of macro trends and big events with individual histories.
We welcome papers with case studies, quantitative analyses and state of the art reviews, preferably in a theoretical or empirical comparative perspective.

1. Plenary session with two keynotes about recent developments in political psychology and in political socialization research

Paper proposals should be sent to the convenors not later than 1 March 2012.
Conference language will be English. The number of participants is limited to 60. Registration fee is ? 100 (to be paid on site at the start of the conference). Participants will have to cover their own travel expenses and accommodation. There will be a possibility to book low budget accommodation at the Moscow State University dormitory. Participants looking for a hotel are requested to make their own arrangements, nowadays easily possible on Internet. Further information about MSU accommodation and a list of hotels in the neighbourhood of the conference location will be offered in March.
