International Conference A SYMBOL IN POLITICS

A symbol is one of the most universal, permanent and effective tools used in politics. It is used in both domestic and foreign politics. It often happens to be a factor giving rise to political conflicts. Symbols are employed in mechanisms for legitimism / delegitimism of power as well as in identity politics. They are applied for political mobilization and manipulation. They favour mythologizing of political phenomena and processes. It seems to be essential to discuss application of symbols in politics taking into consideration both theoretical and practical aspects of the phenomenon.
The following issues will be discussed at the conference:
- Methodology of research of political symbols
- Symbolic resources of political authority
- Symbols in political conflicts
- Symbols in political communication
- Symbols in politics of memory
- A political leader as a symbol
- A symbol in international politics
Political scientists, sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, culture experts, anthropologists, semiologists and historians are invited for discussion. The papers presented at the conference will be published.
The languages of the conference are Polish, Russian and English.
The conference fee to the amount of 400 PLN will be assigned for accommodation fee from 26th to 27th of May, 2011, meals and realization of the publications.
